  1. For an Inside Mount, confirm your window has enough depth to accommodate the mounting brackets.  Please refer to our Mounting Depth Chart.

  2. For an Outside Mount, allow enough overlap for blinds to be mounted on, above or beyond the window frame.  If mounting above the molding, order extension brackets.  To ensure privacy and optimum light control, add an additional 3" to 8" inches to the window measurements, depending on your blind selection.  For detailed measuring instructions by product, please refer to our Blind Types guide.

  3. Since window sizes vary, measure each window in 3 places (top, middle and bottom) for both the width and height.  Use the smallest measurement for the width.  Use the longest measurement for all blind types, except vertical-style blinds and roller shades; use the shortest height measurement for these.  Use a steel tape measure for accuracy and always measure to the nearest 1/8".

  4. Avoid reversing or transposing the width and height number when measuring. Width is the left-to-right measurement. Height is the top-to-bottom measurement.  The width is always the first measurement recorded.  For example, an order 72" x 48" will be made 72" wide by 48" high. We recommend placing a W next to the width measurement and an H by the height measurement.

  5. When replacing a window treatment, do not use existing blind dimensions or headrail sticker information.  Always measure the window again.  The manufacturer will make the proper allowances from your given measurements.

  6. When purchasing window treatments, order all at the same time to ensure they are manufactured from the same dye lot.  Since each computer monitor displays color differently, we recommend our Perfect Match cards.

  7. Put your blind controls in a convenient location.  Always take into consideration furniture placement and ease of access.  If your windows are hard to reach, power options are available.  For ease of blind operation, consider the following options – cordless, continuous cord loop, or a retractable cord. For descriptions of all available options refer to Blind Help Information.

  8. We have a window treatment for every room – know your choices.  For instance, the top down/bottom up option allows light in, while maintaining your privacy; a day/night shade offers you a sheer fabric and a room darkening fabric together.  We can help you select full view to no view – and everything in between. Refer to our Blind Types guide.

  9. We can also accommodate your window treatment requests for unique-shaped windows.  Our Specialty Window guide has the information you need.
