Concerned About Child Safety? Choose blinds and shades with safer options

Make Your Windows Safer for Kids and Pets

Cordless
When selecting options for your blinds and shades, look for the “Safer for Kids” label.

Put safety first in your home with cord-free and motorized options from American Blinds. Window cords are one of the top 5 hidden hazards in the home and can pose a strangulation risk to small children and pets. To keep your home safer, choose from the Safer for Kids Blinds and Shades below.

Each product will have additional safety information in the Product Description located on the product information page. Please review this information before selecting a product.

Cordless operating systems with the "Safer for Kids" label are a better choice for places where children might be present. They're also easy to operate—simply push upward to raise the shade, pull downward to lower it.

For many window treatments you can upgrade to a motorized lift, which is safer for kids and enables you to raise and lower your blind with the touch of a button!

These options also keep your pets safer. Curious furry friends won’t be tempted to play with cords that could be a hazard.

Revised Child Safety Standards - Effective December 2018

The Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) set forth new standards for child safety, to take effect by December 15, 2018. The updated guidelines state that cords on any custom-made window covering cannot be longer than 40% of the height of the window covering, unless a custom cord length is requested.

Child safety is of utmost concern at American Blinds, and all our products are in line with the new WCMA standards. While these new guidelines are a step in the right direction for child safety, we strongly recommend that you choose a cordless or motorized lift system for your window covering if you have children or pets in the home.

Always check the Child Safety section on our product pages to determine if your product is safer for kids.
